Born 1988 in Zurich. Lives and works in Berlin.
Manuel Stehli studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig and at Camberwell College of Arts, London. In 2014 he obtained a diploma in fine arts/painting in the class of Annette Schröter. After graduating Stehli lived and worked in Leipzig and Zurich before moving to Berlin in 2017 for a Winsor&Newton Residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien.
Stehlis often large-formate paintings center around landscape and human interaction. The references such as found photographic footage, filmstills and screenshots from computer games only make it half-way into the work, undergoing a process of dismantling and recombination along the way that puts in question their origin.
