Lilia Kovka

Born 1982 in Kirgistan. Lives and works in Berlin.
She studied at the UdK (University of Fine Arts), Berlin under Gregor Schneider and Tilman Wendland, where she did her Meister (MA).
Lilia Kovka plays with linguistic-philosophical considerations in her works and translates them into physical space in a formative way. She deals with the effects of digital communication on language and from this develops subtle and multi-layered works that revolve around the theme of absence. In these works, signs - symbolically - occupy skin, transform themselves into the woven on apparent nightwear, or lose themselves to gravestones, as in the exhibited work. Only the OFF has been preserved from the name of the deceased. Lilia Kovka shows in a sober way that even the monuments of our transience are ephemeral.
